Psychological support for older adults

My primary area of interest is in supporting the emotional wellbeing of persons aged over 65. Older adults face unique challenges including retirement, relocation and downsizing, changes in family composition, changes in health and mobility, reduced independence, changes to memory and cognition, loss, reflection on life and questions about their future.

It can be beneficial to consult with a psychologist who understands the interplay of these factors and can confidently liaise with your family and other caring professionals.

I have experience working in specific over 65s mental health settings, hospital wards, rehabilitation (stroke, neurological and musculoskeletal rehab), cancer clinics, palliative care, working with persons experiencing challenging behaviours (often due to dementia) and carers. I have a Masters of research in carers of persons with frontotemporal dementia.

Psychological therapy can be a novel experience for older persons. I am available to speak with family members prior to finding an appointment and include family in appointments to ease this process.
