Dr Lauren Roche: Privacy Policy

Sessions between you and Dr Lauren Roche are strictly confidential. All personal information gathered and notes taken by Lauren are in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles contained within the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) Collection of Personal Information and the Psychology Board of Australia Code of Conduct. If information about you is requested by another person, such as a Guardian or partner, this will be discussed with you beforehand, and your permission will be sought. Your information will never be sold, rented, or used for unrelated purposes.

Collection, Storage & Access of your information

The collection of personal information is a necessary part of the psychological assessment and treatment process as it allows Dr Lauren Roche to provide an informed service. Relevant personal information about the current situation will be collected and documented as part of providing psychological services. The personal information collected may include, but may not be limited to, your name, contact details, medical and mental health history, employment status and other relevant information as appropriate including the information you disclose during sessions.

Dr Lauren Roche uses digital scribing software, Heidi Health, to assist with efficient and accurate documentation and communication with your chosen health care professionals. Heidi captures the ambient audio of the consultation and produces an initial draft summary for Dr Lauren Roche, which is then amended manually by Dr Lauren Roche. The amended content is stored in your official record and all raw information from the digital scribing system is permanently deleted. The use of digital scribing is optional and requires your separate consent.

Your client file and information will be stored in a secure location on Oxford Street Medical Centre’s practice management software. Psychologists are required to keep your file for seven years after your last contact with the service (or longer in the case of clients under 18 years, as required by law).

You may access the information in your file on request, subject to the exceptions in the Privacy Act 1988. Requests should be made in writing to Dr Lauren Roche. Lauren asks that time within a session be taken for her to talk through your file with you, helping to answer your questions.

If a data breach ever occurs, Dr Lauren Roche & Oxford Street Medical Centre will activate their data breach response plan and take all reasonable steps to minimise potential harm.

Disclosure of Personal Information:

Information collected by Dr Lauren Roche is used exclusively for the purpose of providing psychological care. Your personal information is treated with respect and remains confidential, except in the following circumstances:

  • Your information is subpoenaed by a court;

  • A medical crisis occurs in the presence of Dr Lauren Roche and emergency services are required;

  • Failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at risk of serious and imminent harm;

  • If there is unauthorised access to data held by Dr Lauren Roche and Oxford Street Medical Centre, some limited information may need to be shared with the Office of the Information Ombudsman;

  • Your prior approval has been obtained to:

i) provide a written report to another professional or organisation. e.g. GP, school or a lawyer;

ii) discuss the material with another person, e.g. a parent, employer, health provider or referral partner;

iii) Communication with third-party funders (e.g. Medicare, insurance providers);

iv) disclose the information in another way; or

  • You would reasonably expect your personal information to be disclosed to another professional or agency (e.g. your GP) and disclosure of your personal information to that third party is for a purpose which is directly related to the primary purpose for which your personal information was collected; or

  • Disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law; or

  • Dr Lauren Roche consults with colleagues or supervisors in which case your identity and that of any associated parties are concealed and your privacy is preserved in the utmost professional manner in accordance with the Psychology Board of Australia Code of Ethics.

  • In some cases, Dr Lauren Roche may be obligated to make a mandatory notification in accordance with Queensland and Australian laws to ensure the safety of yourself or others. Examples of such cases include:

    1.Concerns regarding child safety or wellbeing.

    2.Situations where there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others.

    3.Disclosure of historical child sexual abuse.
